Bio
Vincent Gantt is a busy bass player/ composer in the New York area. Vincent was
born in St. Albans Queens, NY where he was immersed into the diverse music scene
of Jamaica Queens. Vincent started his musical education by studying with a
local musician, Theodore Manigault, Jr. Mr Manigault, a vibes /pianist,
introduced Vincent to the basics of music theory and harmony. Soon after, Vincent
started to attend master classes with bassist Rael Wesley Grant, Jerry Brooks,
Norman "Keys" Hurt, and the late Weldon Irvine. Each of these musicians expanded Vincent's development and interpretation of music.
Vincent began performing in many local bands in the tri-state area. However, a key ingredient to his musical development was playing at Grace United Methodist Church under the direction of the late Huldah Parker. Mrs. Parker introduced Vincent to gospel music, which has elements of classical, jazz, funk, and the blues in the same tune! This allowed Vincent to develop his ear to perform a variety of music. Vincent always says," If you can play in a gospel band, you probably have the ability to play most modern forms of music." Vincent has also played with a host of entertainers, including, Isaac Hayes, Dionne Warwick, Denise Williams, Herbie Mann, Martha Walsh, Alison Williams, Stephanie Mills and Glenn Jones to name a few. These opportunities allowed Vincent to develop as a musician and composer.
